Pretoria – The weekend saw round 1 of this year’s National SupaDrift championship rip into the Zwartkops raceway tarmac. Clare Vale made her debut in the Gatorback RAM Mustang Drift car, and the V8 muscle car proved popular with the enthusiastic crowd. This was Clare’s first drift event and it was a learning curve for her and the team. She unfortunately didn’t make the Top 16 but she learnt a lot from her first sideways outing. The team also learned a lot about the car and will be making substantial setup changes before the next Supadrift event in East London on the 10th of March. Clare’s runs showed real promise and the Gatorback RAM team is looking forward to challenging for a Top 16 place very soon.
Clare on her debut, “We always knew our first event would be a tough one! It’s difficult to get drift practise time at Zwartkops, and although we’ve been doing a lot of testing at The Rock, the long drift on the table top is difficult to replicate. The Mustang has loads of potential, though, and we now know what needs to be done to make the car work better in future. It’s all very different to circuit racing!“
