Durban – This weekend saw Clare Vale join the rest of the SupaDrift series drifters for their final event of the 2013 season as part of the Durban Motorshow. The weather played a role in proceedings, making each day a new challenge with changing track conditions. Clare’s RAM Mustang was well set up, however, and the tricky surface posed few problems for the powerful V8 car.
Fortunately, the track dried out before Saturday afternoon’s qualifying session and Clare put down her best performance in a SupaDrift event to date. She qualified 12th out of 37 top class entries, surprising many contenders. Sunday’s Gold Cup tandem rounds saw Clare drawn up against Royce Munnery, a Durban local, in his V8 Nissan. It was a tough battle of the muscle cars and Royce’s consistency handed him the win.
Clare Vale on the event: ”This event was a fitting finale to the 2013 Supadrift season, with all the drifters putting on a top show. There was total commitment and quite a few cars went home looking the worse for wear. The RAM Team has raised their game with every event this year and I was very happy to qualify 12th in a top drawer field of almost 40 cars.
I still need to work on following in my tandem rounds and this let me down, as Royce was in top form, but it’s good to know we still have plenty of room for improvement. I’m grateful for all the help and assistance we’ve had throughout the year from so many people, and especially to RAM for their fantastic support. I think the RAM Mustang will be a real contender for the new season!”
